Golf in Hua Hin

A World-Class Golf Resort

Once considered one of Thailand’s best-kept golfing secrets, Hua Hin is rapidly becoming known as one of the leading golf resorts in the world. With no less than seven, and soon to become nine championship courses, Hua Hin is truly a golfer’s paradise. From Thailand’s oldest course to state of the art modern designs with superbly equipped clubhouses and facilities, Hua Hin offers golfers everything from a relaxing round for the average player to the sternest of tests for the low handicap and scratch golfer. Whether you are looking for a locally designed course cut into the area’s spectacular natural mountainous terrain, a seaview links type course, or a championship Jack Nicklaus designed layout, Hua Hin’s golf course diversity has something to suit every need.

Climate

With Hua Hin’s perfect climate, golf is a year-round activiy so you’ll have plenty to time to play all of the courses. Hua Hin’s tropical climate has three seasons:

• Warm & Dry: November to February

• Hot: March to May

• Green & Wet: June to October

• The best time of the year, the warm and dry season, exactly corresponds to the European winter. During this time of the year, daytime high temperatures averages 26 degrees Celsius with low humidity and perfect sunny days.

Palm Hills Golf & Country Club

The first of the new courses to open in 1991, Palm Hills was the main venue for the inaugural Thailand World Pro Am tournament in 1993 and the Max Wexler design blends with the slightly hilly terrain to provide a layout suitable for golfers of all standards. Water hazards feature regularly, and holes are mainly separated by large palm trees. The back nine provides some wonderful views over the Gulf of Thailand.

Designer: Max Wexler

Course length: 18 holes Par 72, 6,892 yards

Springfield Royal Country Club

Having five sets of tees to play from, Springfield, which opened in 1993, is truly a championship course. Set in slightly hilly terrain this classic Jack Nicklaus design has ample large bunkers and well-appointed water hazards, offering the average golfer a fair challenge off the standard tees. Off the back tees there are some big carries just to reach the fairways. Springfield is considered one of the best maintained courses in Thailand with excellent clubhouse facilities. It is the main practise ground for the majority of the Hua Hin-based touring professionals who practise there regularly to keep their game finely tuned between the Asian PGA Tour events. Springfield offers challenging and exciting golf for all levels of player.

Designer: Jack Nicklaus

Course length: 18 holes Par 72, 7,063 yards (Gold), 6,695 yards (Blue), 6,281 yards (White), 5,660 yards (Red)

Facilities: Driving range, pro shop, restaurant, spa, swimming pool and accommodation

Majestic Creek Country Club

Located inland from the Hua Hin town centre, Majestic Creek was the latest of the 'new' courses, which opened in 1993. Designer Dr Sukitti Klangvisai is one of Thailand’s leading course architects. With the foothills of the mountain range that divides Thailand from Myanmar (Burma) as a back drop, and the many streams that run through the area, this is truly an attractive course. This layout on a fairly flat terrain needs to be played with thought and skill. Many challenging tee shots make this an exciting prospect for the low handicap golfers, yet a suitable challenge for all levels.

Designer: Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai

Course length: 18 holes Par 72, 6,961 yards

Facilities: Driving range, pro shop, restaurant, tennis, swimming pool, badminton, fitness centre, massage, sauna and accommodation.

Royal Hua Hin Golf Course

Royal Hua Hin was the very first championship golf course to be built in Thailand. One of Thailand’s gems, it was developed at the request of King Rama VI in 1924, and is just a stone's throw from the town centre. Crossing the railway track at Hua Hin train station and you can walk straight onto the first tee. It is a classic example of a natural golf course, set on slightly undulating, but mainly flat terrain and surrounded by deep forest. Mature trees align the fairways making accuracy important for a good score. Several holes provide stunning views of the Gulf of Thailand, and occasionally monkeys have been known to make off with golf balls hit to close to their jungle home.

Designer: O.A. Robins

Course length: 18 holes, Par 72, 6,678 yards

Facilities: Driving range, pro shop and restaurant

Imperial Lake View Hotel & Golf Club

Opened in 1993, Imperial Lake View is a suitable course for the average club golfer and the low handicapper alike. With many greens not visible when standing on the tee box, it certainly gives the golfer a sense of adventure. Well-defined rolling fairways help retain a sense of direction, while small hills and well placed bunkers can catch errant shots, thus producing many testing holes. Mature palm trees are a feature of the course with numerous water hazards coming into play. The undulating greens provide a good putting test. The first class clubhouse has amenities adjoining a 75-room hotel overlooking the 18th hole.

Designer: Roger Packard

Course length: 18 holes Par 72, 6,915 yards

Facilities: Driving range, pro shop, restaurant, massage, squash, swimming pool, tennis and accommodation.

Hua Hin Seoul Country Club (Milford)

For golfers looking for a slightly shorter, links type layout then the Hua Hin Seoul Country Club (formerly Milford Golf & Country Club) is the perfect answer. Magnificent sea views are a feature of this unique course where accuracy and placement are more important than length to keep the score down. Despite it shorter length, we have heard of seasoned local professionals that have had trouble keeping to par on this testing hilly layout. The greens can be quick and difficult to read which will challenge even the best putters.

Designer: Robert McFarland

Course length: 18 holes Par 72, 6,614 yards

Facilities: Pro shop, restaurant and accommodation
